This week has been low on news. Nevertheless, I found two great articles which might be interesting for you as well. Here in the blog this was the week of the alternative topics (see below).

Some follow-up to a Financial Times article on supply chain complexity I linked two weeks ago: Enterra Insights (formerly known as: Enterprise Resilience Blog) now summarized some critical thoughts on it, concluding that complexity itself may be not the issue, but rather missing oversight over the current network. The @risk blog summarizes the recently published study on supply chain resilience by the Business Continuity Institute. (atrisk)

Resilience Survey and Blogs - This Week in Supply Chain Management (45 / 2011)

During this week my research took a turn to the quantitative side. During the last month my focus was on the evaluation of the current research, now I finally can do my on supply chain simulations. So this week was all about getting the output format that I want and calibrating the supply chain model. I hope to be finished during the next week and then I can start assessing some supply chain risks.

News

RIMS has two upcoming risk management webinars on “Analytical Tools for Effective Risk Professionals” and “Implementing Risk Management Programs from Afar” the later one goes into implementing international risk management at Walt Disney. (RIMS)
The AppleInsider published a story on how “Apple leverages deep pockets to gain supply chain edge over rivals”. (Apple Insider)

Research

On Supply Chain Brain you find a short summary and a link to a survey by the Business Continuity Institute on “Supply Chain Resilience 2011” with over 500 respondents. (Supply Chain Brain ; survey free of charge)

This week is all about blogs, since I found some great articles there. I purposefully left out the news on Irene since I am sure you already had enough of it this week. But, you should definitely see Irene from the International Space Station, from above things seem very calm.

Bob from @Risk found an whitepaper by PwC on how to identify and prevent supply chain risks, it’s free to download but of course might be biased towards the PwC consulting repertoire. (@Risk)
Ken reviews a new opportunity for distraction: The blog by Charley Newnham Gold or Dust? on Organizational Resilience, have a look. (Contemplating)
The Gateway is a series by CNN on the logistics that keep the world rolling. (husdal.com)
Eric Savitz from Forbes has a good article on investment vs. saving money in times of disruptions and he identifies supply chain cooperations as a good investment target. (Forbes)
The other Bob from Supply Chain Matters summarized the news from this week in tech from a supply chain point of view, so I will refrain from repeating it here. (Supply Chain Matters)
