This week has been quite busy. Beside the dissertation I am still working on a private project I have to finish till early September. But luckily I found the time to read some of the exciting news of the week.

News

First this week was Apple’s announcement in leadership change. Tim Cook the former Chief-Operating-Officier can now take turn at Apple. I am curious to see how Apple’s supply chain develops in the coming years. (NY Times)

One really nice article I read this week revolves around the question of how innovative potential may have been lost by outsourcing many important production steps. (FastCompany)
Gyöngyi of the Interorganisational has a short post on different sources to keep up to date with new research publications (Interorganisational.org)

Research

The 2011 CSCMP Doctoral Dissertation Award is awarded for a dissertation on “A Multi-Stage Decision Support Model for Coordinated Sustainable Product and Supply Chain Design” by Haritha Metta. (CSCMP)
The Supply Chain Management Review reports on the effects of slow steaming on supply chain design and finds “that 92 percent of transpacific shippers had to make supply chain adjustments”. (SCMR)
Jan Hudsal made a good summary on “How to understand risk”. (Jan Husdal)
