Trouble - This Week in Supply Chain Management (47 / 2011)

What a supply chain challenge. Tomorrow at 10:02 am EST, the Mars Science Laboratory will be launched to Mars, and therefore marks one milestone in a year-long preparation phase and the restart of the ultimate, trans-planetary supply chain. A hundred years ago, sending even small items or messages over long distances took days, weeks or month. Now information travels at the speed of light and cargo at the speed of UPS, all around the globe.

Complexity - This Week in Supply Chain Management (46 / 2011)

This week has been low on news. Nevertheless, I found two great articles which might be interesting for you as well. Here in the blog this was the week of the alternative topics (see below).

Resilience Survey and Blogs - This Week in Supply Chain Management (45 / 2011)

During this week my research took a turn to the quantitative side. During the last month my focus was on the evaluation of the current research, now I finally can do my on supply chain simulations. So this week was all about getting the output format that I want and calibrating the supply chain model. I hope to be finished during the next week and then I can start assessing some supply chain risks.

UK Infrastructure Resilience - This Week in Supply Chain Management (44 / 2011)

Yet another week. I finally handed in the first part of my dissertation thesis, of course just-in-time on the 31st. So right now I prepare the second part, with the results of my exploratory expert interviews on supply chain risk mitigation strategies and insights of a simulation study using agent based simulation.

Flood Disruption - This Week in Supply Chain Management (43 / 2011)

Happy 200!
This is my 200th article on the SCRM Blog.
One of my goals for this year was to build a good foundation on supply chain management for you, the readers, to be able to browse through a collection of great articles on supply chain risk management, and related topics.

Cisco case study - This Week in Supply Chain Management (42 / 2011)

I had a productive week. Nonetheless, there is still a lot to do. The next deadline for handing in parts of my dissertation is by the end of October, so at the moment I am working on the last bits and pieces there. I still found some time to read on the internet, this is the best of over 30 articles I read.

CSCMP conference and Thailand - This Week in Supply Chain Management (41 / 2011)

I am not a big fan of huge announcements, but some of you already noticed a small change on all pages of this supply chain risk portal: After my wedding in September I took the last name of my wife (Dumke). So just this week I changed all the entries here and adapt a few accounts elsewhere on the internet and now we are up and running again. So right now I use this incident to monitor how fast such changes propagate through the common search engines.
Search engines also helped me finding some of the best articles on the web this week, which I linked below.

Supply Chain Risks in Practice and Research Gaps - This Week in Supply Chain Management (40 / 2011)

As every Friday I enjoy reading into some of this weeks news. I am back from my vacation so I read a little more again this week. My favorite reads were the KPMG study and Jan Husdal’s article on research gaps.

Greek Risks - This Week in Supply Chain Management (39 / 2011)

Internet problems prohibited a more timely post, but since today is my last day under the Mauritian sun, there shouldn’t be any further delays.

Thyphoon and Podcast - This Week in Supply Chain Management (38 / 2011)

I still enjoy the sun of Mauritius, so this weeks reading material is once again shorter than usual.
