Jiang et al. (2009) wrote about job dissatisfaction of workers at suppliers in developing countries.
Goal & Methodology
The goal of the study was to analyze risk in a global supply chain, especially originating from labor dissatisfaction and turnover. The results were obtained using a survey of workers in the Chinese Pearl River Delta region. The methodology is presented precisely and comprehensively.
This week I would like to think about the future of supply chain management. Cox and Lamming wrote a corresponding article titled: “Managing supply in the firm of the future”.
Today we have a look at current research regarding the improvement of resilience within a supply chain.
In their 2012 paper “Supply chain redesign for resilience using simulation” Carvalho et al. analyze supply chain resilience on the basis off a Portuguese automotive parts manufacturer.

Paper
Managing Risks of Supply-Chain Disruptions: Dual Sourcing as a Real Option
Published In:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Master Thesis
Year:
2003
This is the seventh contribution to my series on doctoral and master dissertations on Supply Chain Risk Management. This again is a master thesis from the MIT. An immense effort and dedication is spent on these works only to find the results hidden in the libraries. So the goal is raise interest in the research of my peers.

Finally, the dissertation is complete. Last week I finished working on the comments and handed in the final work. The process now consists of three more steps that can take another three to four month: First, I have to do a (really) short presentation of my thesis topic. Second, I have to wait for two written evaluations by two professors of the university. Last, I have to defend my thesis, hopefully some time around December.

The kayak tour last weekend was great. We had good weather and a lot of fun. Even though our boat lost in every speed competition.
Afterwards we spent a night in Berlin, where I had the chance to eat dim sum (chinese dumplings) again at Yumcha. They remind me a lot of my semester in Hong Kong. Especially the Siu Mai.
